The Victoria Chapter of the ALS Society, a non-profit organization, supports ALS patients and their families from Victoria to Duncan and the Gulf Islands. We provide client support and the loan of equipment to meet their needs. ALS is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease. This disease is sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease as he was a professional baseball player who was at the peak of his career when diagnosed and died at the age of 39. ALS can hit anyone at any age and the average life expectancy after diagnosis is 3 to 5 years. Approximately 20% of the ALS patients in the province live on Vancouver Island, currently this totals 30 people and their families.
Each year the Chapter hosts a Walk at the University of Victoria to raise funds for research. Last year we had over 700 walkers and raised over $70,000 for this cause.
The Walk is being held on September 17, 2017 at Parking Lot 10 at the University of Victoria.
The Clanns will be performing at 12 noon to 1pm
